New Colac Police Station Opening

October 26, 2018

Member for Polwarth, Richard Riordan MP, attended the opening of the state of the art new Colac police station and presented a national flag on behalf of the Federal Government.

The lack of front line police continues to be a concern to local police and Mr Riordan.

“The Liberals have been talking about crime and lack of police numbers for four years,” Mr Riordan said. “Our new facility will help keep the community in Colac safe, but if there are not enough police in the building then it will be under utilised.

“I am very concerned about how well this station will perform, as Minister Lisa Neville is refusing to allow backfill positions for police officers who are sick or on leave.

“We have an excellent station, so we should have the right numbers. Our new lock up facilities require fully funded police custody officers to ensure that police are not taken off key front line policing duties.

“Policing is a tough job and we need to get it right,” Mr Riordan said.
