Winchelsea Tea Rooms

April 5, 2019

Member for Polwarth, Richard Riordan MP, has expressed his strong concerns to the Surf Coast Shire over the handling of the Winchelsea Old Shire Hall and tea rooms.

“I have requested an urgent meeting with the Surf Coast Shire to discuss the future of this much loved community asset,” Mr Riordan said.

“Over 120 people attended a community meeting in Winchelsea to show their support and share their concerns about this crisis.

“The Shire have been completely ignoring the wishes of the Winchelsea community. It is pure arrogance from the Shire to force out the services and hospitality provided by the tea rooms.

“The Old Shire Hall is an icon in Winchelsea and a gathering place for various not-for-profit groups.

“I endorse the motions put forward at the recent meeting which rallied in support of the current café operator and the positive impact the tea rooms have on the local community.

“It seems to me the Surf Coast Shire has underestimated the importance and value of the facility to the community and I wish to help facilitate immediate mediation between the Surf Coast Shire and the Winchelsea community,” Mr Riordan said.
