About Richard - Member for Polwarth
Richard lives in Elliminyt with his wife Catherine and has four children. He grew up in Colac and became the Managing Director of his family’s business. The Riordan family have operated various farms and service businesses in the region for five generations.
Richard is an active community participant. He has been a past Board Member of Colac Area Health, the Corangamite Catchment Authority and Sacred Heart Primary School as well as Chairman of the local Business and Traders Association.
As the former Chair of Colac Area Health, Richard led a $30 million redevelopment of the region’s health care service and later he was instrumental in the creation of the highly successful Colac Area Health Foundation.
Like many families in the area, the Riordan’s have been involved in numerous sporting clubs and community groups, most notably the Irrewarra-Beeac Football Netball Club and the Geelong Cats.
Richard understands Polwarth and the need for a strong local voice and he is an advocate for regional and rural Victoria. He was elected to State Parliament on 31 October 2015 in a by-election after the retirement of former MP, Terry Mulder. This was the first Liberal Party by-election win in thirty-five years. During his time in Parliament, Richard has actively pursued many issues important to local people and he has been appointed to the Environment, Natural Resources and Regional Development Committee.
