Polwarth is home to the world’s second-largest volcanic plain, with its lakes, craters and fertile soil providing fertility  for the pastures of grains, sheep and beef grazing. Mount Elephant sits like a beacon across the region, leading travellers to and from the farming towns of Mortlake, Derrinallum, Lismore and Skipton. The ever-changing and growing historic towns of Inverleigh and Bannockburn form the boundary of the region with the nearby regional city of Geelong.
